Fulton County Commissioner, District 1
Why I’m Running
I’m running for District 1 Commissioner to offer a new voice for Fulton County.
All residents deserve to feel welcome and have the opportunity to thrive in our community. We need a commissioner who speaks up when members of our community are targeted or forgotten, listen to their stories and advocate for policies that create a more inclusive Fulton County. I will meet with, listen to and develop policies based on input from the diverse residents of district 1 and engage with our Black, Latino, Asian American & Pacific Islander, and Arab American communities to help build a stronger, more inclusive policy agenda for Fulton County.
All residents deserve the opportunity to get the full value of county services for their tax dollars. Every person should have a voice in how county services are administered, and access to services that will make their lives better. I will work to raise awareness regarding the role and services provided by Fulton County government, help educate on the role of the county commission, and work to improve the quality and breadth of county services such as water so that our county can truly reach its potential.
All residents deserve fair, easy to understand, and reliable property tax assessments. The tax assessment process determines the value of taxable property, which is then applied to the millage rate, which determines the cost of your property taxes. Everything about this process needs to be easy to understand and made available in detail to taxpayers. This includes exactly how the assessed value is determined, step by step instructions to file an appeal if you do not agree with the assessed value, and clear guidance of the taxpayers rights and expectations during the Board of Equalization process. Every single step of the appeal, Board of Equalization process, and right to a 3-year freeze of assessed value are completely legal and easy to execute if you have clear guidance and step by step instructions. I will advocate for the financial resources to ensure Fulton County can make the property assessment, appeal and Board of Equalization process open and available to all taxpayers.
I believe in the Paul Wellstone quote “We all do better when we all do better,” meaning that we have a responsibility to ensure resources are distributed equitably across the county so that every resident has the opportunity to thrive. I will represent and advocate for District 1, and consider the entire county when making decisions, because the policies we enact will affect the entire county.
